Last wine bar tonight - LunÀtico- "The Hang" update
Posted on
What a mess! Wow, things have started off with a bang (or a whimper?) for sure. Crazy.
Tonight! I’ll be playing at Domaine Bar a Vins for my last time until March. Joining me will be Jesse Gelber and Young Kevin Dorn. Please come out and say hi. For the time I am gone, either Jesse Gelber or Bill Malchow will be leading bands. They’ll be awesome.
A week from Thursday (January 11th), I’ll be joining the amazing Richard Julian and band (Chris Morrissey & Dan Reiser) at Bar LunÀtico in Bed Stuy. It’s such a great place.
And — alas the Prototype Festival has been canceled due to COVID. If you purchased tickets for any of the Jan 7-16th performances of “The Hang” you should have gotten an email today with details on how you can either get a refund or reschedule. “The Hang” has, amazingly, been the only show that has survived this cancelation. Opening night is now 1/19. As of now, we’re scheduled to do 5 shows a week until 2/20.
I do hope you’ll get a ticket and come see me with “The Hang.” C’mon! You’re in New York freakin’ City! Where the hell else are you gonna get queer avant-garde theater in a comedic jazz opera form about the death of Socrates? This is written and performed by Pulitzer nominated MacArthur fellow Taylor Mac, with music written by my dear friend and muse Matt Ray. It will feature some of the most creative and talented professionals I know. I’ll be playing trombone, guitar, and sousaphone. I’ll be practically wearing a toga (designed by Machine Dazzle) — certainly less than you’ll ever see me wear in public (unless we go to the beach together, and I’m typically wearing too much there too). The band is on stage doing choreography and having all sorts of fun as we consider virtue together. Now THAT is a freakin’ party!
The theater is extremely well ventilated and they will be handing out KN95 masks to everyone in the audience. You must be vaccinated to attend. The entire cast and crew will be doing vigorous testing throughout to insure no one is contagious in the room.
If you happened to have just recently recovered from COVID like I have, may I suggest you use your short window of being COVID invincible by supporting your local food, nightlife, and arts establishments as much as you can. They are (understandably) experiencing very slow business at the moment. I want them to stick around!
Thanks as always for your interest and support,
